Chain of custody for AI output
The governed intelligence control layer — built for law firms first.
Every AI response in KeepWise runs through controls you can inspect: checked before you see it, approved before anything consequential happens, and recorded so you can prove what happened.

What you do in KeepWise
Legal work, in one governed workspace.
Draft
Draft with AI inside the client or matter the work belongs to.
Research
Research with AI, including web search, with the sources listed alongside the answer.
Organize by client and matter
Keep chats, with their notes, evidence and AI-generated documents, under the client and matter they belong to.
Legal Hold
Freeze a client or matter so nothing under it can be deleted or moved.
Automatic citation checks
Every AI-generated case citation is checked: does the case exist, and does the quote appear in it.
Approve consequential actions
Actions with real side effects wait for your approval before they run.
How a governed response works
Every response passes the same five steps.
- 01 · Input
You ask, inside a matter
Work starts in the client or matter it belongs to.
- 02 · Check
Checked before release
The response is held until automatic checks finish.
- 03 · Evidence
Results shown with the response
Check results appear with the answer; if the citation check can't run, the response's citations show no verdict and the response says they could not be checked.
- 04 · Approval
A person decides
Consequential actions wait for a person to approve them.
- 05 · Record
A tamper-evident record
Audit events go to a ledger where an edit or deletion is detectable.
Controls built on the layer
What governs the work, in production now.
Checks before release
Every response is held while automatic checks run, including citation verification against CourtListener's case-law database. If the citation check can't run, the response's citations show no verdict and the response says they could not be checked.
Human approval on consequential actions
Actions with real side effects are proposed, then wait for a person's explicit approval before anything runs.
Legal Hold
A legal hold freezes a client or matter: nothing under it can be deleted or moved until the hold is lifted. Lifting it needs a second attorney or admin to approve; if you are the only one, the lift waits 72 hours and you can cancel it.
The tamper-evident record
Audit events are written to a hash-chained ledger, so an edited or deleted entry is detectable. Approval decisions are kept in a separate append-only record.
Roles within a firm
Owners and attorneys can see every client and matter in the firm, and roles decide what each person can do. An owner or attorney can give a paralegal or staff member access to a client and its current matters from the client's settings.
Provider data protection
Client data is never used to train AI models. How long each provider keeps data is published on the Subprocessors page. Subprocessors

Security, as evidence
Controls you can inspect, with the gaps written down.
The control layer is 16 named controls, each held to an evidence bar rather than asserted once. Where the proof stops, we say so.
13 of 16 controls fully evidenced, 2 of 16 evidenced with a documented limitation, 1 of 16 partially evidenced.
Supabase, Northflank, Vercel, Stripe, Resend, Anthropic and Brave each state that they hold a SOC 2 Type II attestation or report. Not every provider we use does, and KeepWise itself has not been independently audited.
Same models, governed
Why not just use ChatGPT or Claude?
KeepWise doesn't replace the model. Today Anthropic's Claude writes its chat answers and Google's Gemini handles internal classification, summarization and review, both listed on our Subprocessors page. What KeepWise adds is the control layer around them: checks before you see a response, a person's approval before anything consequential happens, Legal Hold, and a tamper-evident record.
